You've Got To Be Kidding

LAUGHTER

As a Certified Laughter Coach and Laughter Yoga Instructor it has become
my mission to encourage people to laugh for no particular reason as much
and as freely as possible. Seriously!

It is a common misconception that something needs to be funny in order to
laugh when it also works the other way around. The more we laugh, the
more amusing life is. Using a series of 'laughter exercises' originally
developed by
Dr. Madan Kataria in India, I show you how to cultivate a
source of laughter that is not reliant on humor or funny situations. We all
agree that laughter is the best medicine, but quite often when we need a
good laugh nothing remotely funny is happening. Once you have learned to
laugh for no reason and stimulate your own laughter this is no longer a
problem, since you have the tools to start laughing any time, any place. For
many people this is a revolutionary concept. You can then go on to fully
embody the increased vitality that comes from being easily amused and
amazed by life.

In a typical laughter workshop we spend some time discussing the effects of
laughter on the mind and body. From there we move on to doing a series of
laughter exercises which are the vehicle by which we learn to laugh for no
reason. Basically this involves pantomiming common activities while
laughing. Each laughter exercise lasts approximately 2 minutes. It is after
two minutes of sustained laughter that the physical effects on the body kick
in. Most people have never laughed like this before. Our heart rates will
jump, our body temperature will rise, our cheeks will be pink....we will
be having a lot of fun and have no idea why. We clap, we breathe and we
laugh. It is a simple and profound experience.

I use my infectious laugh out in the world to encourage others to use
laughter to improve and heal their lives. My practice incorporates laughter
and the expressive arts to nurture the mind, body and spirit. I teach
workshops in libraries, schools, in the work place, with cancer survivors or
anyplace else where people are stressed out, in distress or sick of taking life
so seriously. I can show you how to use laughter as a stress management
tool, a way to stimulate creativity, for team building, bridge building, ice
breaking, as holistic healing support and more.

Laughter workshops can be held once or as a series. A standard workshop is
one hour long, but can be extended to include more philosophical
information on laughter, happiness and levity. A half day or full day
workshop can include expressive arts exercises that springboard from the
laughter environment. It is amazing how an hour spent considering laughter
and immersed in an extended guffaw creates a shift in a person and an
organization. You'll be talking about it for months.
